![🚨FEDERAL COURT RULING ON EMERGENCIES ACT 🚨 During 2021, a group of Canadian truck drivers and their supporters rallied in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada’s capital.
They closed down streets, honked their horns and carried signs that called for an end to the COVID-19 vaccine mandates ordered by the federal government.
In response, the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time since it was created in 1988. This gave it the power to shut down the protests.
On Jan. 23, Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley ruled that Trudeau’s decision to use the act was “unreasonable” and “unintelligible”.
The Honourable Justice said that it violated one of the rights in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which allows groups of people to gather and protest.
This goes against a previous ruling from Feb. 17, 2023, where a judge decided that Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act was “justified.”
What do you think about this ruling by the Canadian Federal Court?
